On our way to Florida earlier this month we lot docked at Cracker Barrel for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised.
Since we moved into our camper in August 2020 we’ve been plugged in at campgrounds except for when moving to another campground. Due to the length of the drive to Florida from Middle Tennessee we knew we would have to overnight or lot dock at either Cracker Barrel, Walmart, or a rest area. We decided to try Cracker Barrel mostly because we could get our coffee in the morning. Funny, but true!
We spent our first night lot docking at the Cracker Barrel in Dalton, Georgia. Before we chose that location, I looked at the satellite view of the parking lot on Google maps. We easily found the RV parking spots behind the store. The manager seemed genuinely glad we chose to stop there. We ate supper there, then breakfast again the next morning.
The next night we stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Tifton, Georgia. Again, we were enthusiastically welcomed.
We kept our small slide in. Thankfully we can access everything in our camper with our slide in. We turned on our lights only to use the bathroom. We used our battery operated fans rather than the fan in the RV. We honestly aren’t quite sure how long our batter will last since we’ve never dry camped before. It’s the battery the dealer installed-lead acid and only 75 amp hours.
We have learned that we love lot docking at Cracker Barrel. So far we’ve felt safe and welcome. We plan to stop at Cracker Barrel on our next multi-day trip.
So, anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with coffee. Truly. Daniel says I’m a coffee snob. Probably true.
But, I’m a sipper, not a chugger. That means my coffee invariably gets cold before I’ve consumed half a cup. And, rewarming coffee in the microwave? Well, I have no words for how vile that is. (See the third sentence of the first paragraph.) Which all means that I’m also a coffee waster. When my coffee gets cold, I dump it and make new cup.
Y’all, I seriously might make four cups of coffee to drink one. Yes, I admit it.
Enter this amazing gift Daniel bought for me *drumroll* A CUP WARMER!!
It’s amazing! It keeps my cup at exactly 131 degrees FOREVER. No more wasting coffee. YAY!
Our mission? Finding an easy, tasty, practical solution to making coffee in an RV once we hit the road. Yes, of course, our RV will have electricity. But we do plan to be off grid a lot. And, I don’t want to run down our batteries just running an electric coffee maker.
I immediately thought French Press. Easy peasy, right? Just put in the grounds, heat the water, wait four minutes, drink coffee. Yes, it’s that easy, but there are a couple of drawbacks that take French Press out of the number one spot.
Can only make 2 mugs of coffee at a time
Doesn’t stay hot longer than about 15-20 minutes
Uses a lot of coffee grounds
So, we’ll keep using it for now, but this will not be our go to once we’re on the road.
We’re also considering cold brew, which we’ve used in the past and enjoyed. We’re going to try pour over, too.
Time for Friday favorites. But before I get started, I have to say a huge TGIF!!! This week just about did me in.
Enough of that. On to this weeks faves.
ChuckIt Balls for Dogs
These orange and blue balls keep our Border Collie and our German Shepherd mix entertained for hours at a time. Which means Daniel and I are also entertained for hours. They are durable, easily cleaned, and difficult to destroy. Though our small bully breed mix has successfully destroyed them in the past. But he had to work at it. If you have dogs, try this toy.

My Coffee Cup
Daniel bought me this cup several years ago at the LIfeway store in downtown Nashville. For no reason. Not my birthday. Not our anniversary. Just because he was thinking of me and wanted me to know. How could this not be my favorite coffee mug? It makes me smile just to see it.
